PERSONAL AND CAREER ASSESSMENT PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL FUTURES has developed a unique process of self and career assessment, which it considers the basis for future planning in a young person's life. It is important for students to be ready as they approach a major decision point at the end of either the secondary school experience or the college or university years. Readiness has to do not only with education and knowledge, it has also to do with internal preparedness. There must be an understanding of oneself in terms of goals, values, personality and behavior, and also interests and aptitudes as they relate to possible career or vocational choices. Through a series of exercises and an interview with an EDUCATIONAL FUTURES Representative, the student is asked to reflect on the basic questions of "Who Am I?" and "Where Am I Going?" The exercises are chosen from the best sources and include those from Richard Bolles' book, What Color is Your Parachute?, the Mohler Personal Concept exercise prepared for the American Management Association, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, the Vernon, Allport and Linzey "Study of Values", and the Strong Interest Inventory. The exercises are then scored, and a consultant examines the data and presents his conclusions and recommendations in a written Personal and Career Assessment Report, prepared for the student.
The student will meet with an EDUCATIONAL FUTURES Consultant to review the Report, summarizing the student's educational goals, values and personality as well as career interests and aptitudes. |
