We believe that the student should control the planning and decision making process as much as possible within the parameters established by the parents. Control is a function of the ability to make good decisions. Good decisions require good information and worthy options.

EDUCATIONAL FUTURES is committed to turning over control of the planning and decision making process to the student as quickly as possible. To this end, we offer a one-time, two hour consultation. If possible, both parents should be present.

The consultation includes a discussion of the student's educational and experiential background, an understanding of parental perspective and concerns and a review of the student's needs and objectives. Discussion of the importance of setting goals, time management and study habits is included. Suggestions for researching options, obtaining information, establishing priorities and developing a plan of action will be made. A written summary of the meeting will be provided.

The goal of the consultation is to provide the student and parents with a clear idea of where to obtain the information they will need in order to develop the options necessary for a good decision. A secondary goal of the consultation is to respond to the family's questions and concerns that relate to the student's status and plans.
